First up, this socket set:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Sure, it’s rather spendy for a kit with no drivers, however, those swivels... they save so much pulling off other stuff to get at bolts. Way better than U-joint style in every way and ways I can’t describe.
This one I got as a gift:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I never thought the flex head and short swings would be great, but the 3/8 drive handled pretty much every fastener on pulling my Corvair’s drivetrain and getting the transmission separated in short order.
Long extensions in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Brand isn’t important, just get some. You have no clue how sweet it is to be swinging a ratchet in free space while the socket is buried arm deep in wretched crampness.
This T-handle gizmo:

Looks gimmicky as hell, but it really does work. Put a socket on the end, spin fasteners down, spin them off. For a lot of work you can easily get them tight enough that you don’t even need a socket.
If you have some that you love, post them here! This isn’t a sponsored post but if any of the companies above wanna throw me tools, I’ll take them. Just don’t expect me to do anything. Seriously. I may take the free tool and just throw it in a drawer. Just saying.

This is a good list. I got this Milwaukee 3/8" battery powered ratchet a couple years ago. It was a game changer.

My three most beloved tools are my ratcheting wrenches, my 1/4" drive impact, and the JIS screwdriver. (which technically is Dad’s so I need to buy my own)

The JIS screwdriver. The useless screwdriver that some people absolutely must own because they can’t do anything properly without!

Why does phillips exist? JIS seems like a much better design from a not-stripping-things standpoint. Though I guess phillips would be better from a manufacturing standpoint where things don’t have to line up perfectly to be able to slide the tip into the screwhead.

So you like you ratchet? I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on one, and now I’m probably going to go with the fuel 3/8”. Do you use it as much as a regular ratchet, or I guess I mean, in lieu of a regular ratchet? Or do you still need to break things loose with a conventional ratchet first?

I have all of those sockets, granted not impact rated but I don’t have an impact gun, and yet I still want to buy that socket set. Mines mostly pieced together so I lose everything all the time. Those swivels look so much nicer than u jointa. Im guessing they’re like tiny CV joints?

I have the U-joint sockets, I have U joint extentions. I never used them. These are more like ball and socket. Definitely closer to CV, doesn’t suffer from the “flop 90 degrees” issue.

Self aligning was the key feature that phillips had over robertson. Ubiquity is what it has over JIS.

Remember also that Philips and slotted are both designed to cam-out to prevent over torquing. This was handy in the old days before accurate torque screwdrivers were common in industry.
The big hassle is that the torque limiting feature for installation also applies for removal. And that is BIG problem when nature’s thread locker (rust) sets in.

Electric ratchets are awesome. Get one.

I use it a lot, and I love it. For low torque things, a lot of times you don’t need a ratchet at all. If you’re thinking about getting one, get one.

Yeah, that tool was a game changer for me.

Just ordered the fuel 3/8 drive. Thanks for the information.
